ABOUT SALT : (Phenolphthalein, Bisacodyl):- They are partly absorbed and re-excreted in bile: entero-hepatic circulation is more important in phenolphthalein, which can produce protracted action.
INDICATIONS / USED FOR TREATMENT OF All forms of constipation, e.g. in bedridden patients, due to change of food or environment, illness or digestive disorders. Relief of evacuation in painful conditions such as haemorrhoids. Pre-and postoperatively. Preparation for barium enema; preparation of colon for proctosigmoidoscopy.
DOSAGE As Directed by the physcian, generally The dosage is Bisacodyl : 5-15 mg at bedtime.Phenol-phthalein: 60-130 mg at bedtime.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS / CAUTION SHOULD BE TAKEN OR IT SHOULD NOT BE USED IN CASE OF Acute surgical abdomen.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS First 3 months of pregnancy. The concurrent administration of antacids (Sod. bicarbonate) and milk should be avoided.
SIDE EFFECT : Abdominal discomfort. Soreness in the anal region due to leakage of the suppository base.
